Vital WiFi, a managed public WiFi service provider and part of the Wifinity Group, has announced new customer wins in the UK offshore oil and gas sector. Employees, contractors and other visitors on 50 rigs and vessels will be connected using Vital’s crew WiFi management platform in early 2025.
Around 5,000 oil and gas employees will use the new, secure WiFi services, provided by Vital’s partners. These include 4MS Network Solutions, which is delivering a managed crew welfare internet solution to over 30 rigs. Users get online using a corporate login credential and receive a daily bandwidth allowance that is shared equally amongst crew to stop service bottlenecks.
Reliable WiFi coverage is critical for transient offshore employees, working in a harsh and isolated environment. With long hours and difficult physical conditions, WiFi is important to support crew well-being, health and safety, productivity and retention.
“Operators are looking for high-quality connectivity as they increase the amenities available to support crew welfare in the offshore oil and gas sector,” said Joe Burnell, Managing Director, Vital WiFi.
“Several of our team have worked offshore and we understand the isolation and challenges of the North Sea environment. We’re proud to support these communities with reliable internet so that they can stay in touch with their families onshore.”
